Lando Norris claimed pole position for the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix in spectacular fashion, clocking a lap time more than three-tenths of a second faster than his closest rival, Max Verstappen.

After setting the provisional pole in the initial Q3 runs, Norris improved his time with a remarkable 1m 09.673s lap in his McLaren, which moved Verstappen—who had briefly been in P1—down to second place, 0.356s behind.

Oscar Piastri secured third place for McLaren, while George Russell was the fastest Mercedes driver in fourth. Sergio Perez had a stronger qualifying session than in recent weekends, placing his Red Bull in fifth.

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari was sixth fastest, followed by Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin in seventh and Alex Albon of Williams in eighth, who put in a standout performance. Unfortunately, Albon was disqualified from the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix Qualifying for a technical nonconformity after the floor on his car was found in breach of regulations. All other cars move up in the classification. Lance Stroll and Pierre Gasly completed the top ten for Aston Martin and Alpine, respectively.

There were unexpected exits in Q2, as Carlos Sainz struggled with his Ferrari and ended up in 11th place. Lewis Hamilton also faced a surprising elimination in 12th for Mercedes and would receive a three-place grid drop for impeding Perez in Q1. After Albon’s disqualification, Halmtion eventually lined up P14 on the starting grid.

Joining them in the Q2 drop zone were Yuki Tsunoda of RB in 13th and the Haas duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen in 14th and 15th.

It was a tough Saturday for Daniel Ricciardo, who found himself out in Q1 with his RB in 16th place. Esteban Ocon of Alpine was 17th, while the Sauber pair of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu ended up in 18th and 19th.

Despite the Williams team’s best efforts, Logan Sargeant could not participate following a heavy crash in FP3, leaving him at the back of the grid.
