Stroll began his racing career in karting before graduating to junior formulae in 2014. He quickly made a name for himself by winning the 2014 Italian F4 Championship with Prema Racing, followed by victories in the 2015 Toyota Racing Series and the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
Lance Stroll made his Formula One debut with Williams in 2017 at the age of 18, partnering with the experienced Felipe Massa. Despite early struggles adapting to F1, Stroll secured his maiden podium in just his eighth race at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, becoming the second-youngest driver ever to stand on an F1 podium and the youngest to do so in their rookie season. Over the course of two seasons with Williams, Stroll demonstrated flashes of talent, but the team’s declining competitiveness limited his results.
In 2019, Stroll moved to Racing Point, a team recently acquired by his father, Lawrence Stroll. This move allowed him to continue developing in a more competitive environment. Racing Point provided Stroll with a car capable of fighting for points regularly, and his performances reflected his growth. The highlight of his time with the team came in the 2020 season, where he secured his maiden pole position at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix in treacherous wet conditions, earning praise from teams and drivers. That same year, Stroll earned two podium finishes at the Italian and Sakhir Grand Prix, making it his best season in Formula One to date.
Following the rebranding of Racing Point to Aston Martin in 2021, Stroll continued with the newly named team, partnering with four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel. The hope was Stroll would learn from one of the sport’s most successful drivers while playing a key role in Aston Martin’s ambitious plans to return to the top of Formula One. In 2023, Stroll teamed up with two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso, who joined the team, further enhancing the team’s profile. As of 2024, Stroll is contracted to remain with Aston Martin until at least the end of the 2026 season and has achieved one pole position and three podium finishes.
