Audi, the German automobile manufacturer, entered Formula One as both a constructor team and a power unit supplier for the 2026 F1 World Championship. The new Audi F1 Team emerged from Audi’s acquisition of Sauber, with engines supplied by Audi Formula Racing GmbH.

The ambitious project spans multiple locations, with facilities in Indiana, Michigan, and North Carolina. The engine department will be headquartered in Indiana, and an additional UK-based operation will be located in Silverstone.

In August 2022, Audi announced plans to enter Formula One as an engine manufacturer starting in the 2026 season. By October of the same year, Audi confirmed its partnership with Sauber Motorsport, acquiring a stake in the team. The partnership resulted in the team being rebranded under the Audi name, with Audi supplying the engines.

In November 2024, the Qatar Investment Authority acquired a minority stake in the team.

For the 2025 F1 World Championship, Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto joined Sauber’s existing outfit, Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, on separate multi-year contracts. Both drivers contracted to compete for Audi beginning in the 2026 season.
